Well it finally happened…I bought a Nintendo Wii. I'd been thinking about getting one for a while but sort of gave up because I could never find one around at any of the stores I frequently visit. True, I could have probably ordered one online somewhere but I wasn't that hot to trot about getting one in the first place.

Ironically, I had actually decided to retire from console gaming altogether after my last Nintendo system (the GameCube). So why did I end-up getting a Wii? And why didn't I get one of the other consoles?

Here are the ten reasons why I bought a Nintendo Wii.

10. PS3 Is Too Expensive and Blu-ray Still Sucks
I briefly considered getting a PS3 but ultimately decided not to. Why? Well, aside from Blu-ray, why bother? There doesn't seem to be any groundbreaking games out for the PS3 that floated my boat and the system is still too expensive. And who wants to pay more just to get a Blu-ray device when everybody knows that downloadable online content is where things are headed?

Sorry but there was just no way I could consider a PS3. Sony needs to drop the price and add some real gaming innovation before I could even think about getting one. Blu-ray is already outdated and headed the way of the do-do bird.

9. Xbox 360 is Unreliable and Offers Nothing New
So what about the Xbox 360? Why didn't I buy one of those? Well I didn't even consider it. Not even for a moment. The Xbox 360 offers absolutely nothing of value in terms of innovative game-play that mattered to me. And—given that I'd bought one for my mom's husband that had to be sent back to Microsoft for repairs—I knew there were serious reliability problems.

The Xbox 360 had even less to offer than a PS3 in terms of gaming. Perhaps the only thing it offered that a Wii didn't was better graphics. Big deal. Who cares about pretty the game looks if you're bored playing it and starting to fall asleep holding the controller?

8. The Wii Remote is Just Too Cool
When I first picked up a Wii controller I realized Nintendo had come up with something very different. However, when I first saw it I thought it was actually quite regressive and rather stupid. Yep, Nintendo proved me quite wrong about the Wii's controller.

As soon as I started playing with it I realized it was what we all should have had years ago for gaming. And if you add in the coolness of the Wii nunchuck controller, you have an even neater way of playing games. Nintendo's Wii Remote handily beats controllers from Microsoft and Sony, both of whom seem locked in the past and unable to move beyond aging controller designs. Continued…
